Sandlady's 10th  Annual
Gourd Fest August 23-24
Here at the farm.

I will display my Jim Story Collection.
I have a gourd he designed and shaped like a banjo and others that are straight or curved according to the way Jim trained the gourd.  I will show a video with Jim teaching how to grow and train gourds.  Title is "From Vine to Design".  The Indiana Gourd Society sells this video.

I will also show a special piece in my collection of  Lynn Rhem's Father's work.  Dr. Leslie Miller.  He taught Lynn and Lynn has taught her children to chip carve on gourds.  Once you see their work, you will recognize it anywhere.    When I am finished with it this year, I will hand it over to Lynn to keep in her family.

Becky Davis Parker  $30
Outstanding Wood Burner

Bring a gourd and wood burner
Wood burning.
President of Illinois Gourd Society
and has art in several galleries.
Becky is one of the Best.
This is a beginners  class taught by one of the most outstand wood burners and artist.

What would you like? I am teaching Celtic knots at the Il. Gourd society Show workshop. Nothing too difficult, but a good, eye pleasing project for beginer woodburners. I get frustrated teaching beginer classes. I would really like to sink my teeth into an advanced class. Like, "Balancing dark and light- incorporating overall design in a gourd." That would take about a week of all day classes. From what I have seen out there in the woodburning/gourds world it is needed. Or, "Incorporating Fundimental Dianamics on a Gourd"  Oh, well. Maybe someday. How about "Burning and Shading Lilies." I know I did that one last year, but it is a simple form, and a good way of teaching basic shading technique, as well as the importance of light source and shadow in making your gourd woodburning look 3 deminsional. What do you think? I only have two woodburners. Could we request people bring their own?  And I really think people should buy their own gourd for the class.! Betsy

I have a lot of Native artifacts.

Each year I want to show them but time is not on my side.  Things happen to rob my time.

We will have a good time when you all come.
I hope it is not too hot and gas prices go down.  Everyone who comes each year have told me they really enjoy coming.
